UPDATE: How does this sound? (image below)

Kinja'd!!!

I’m (I’m 16) writing an email to a potential employer (for a summer job) who I have met once before and who has employed my brother. What should I put in the subject line of my email. I want to come across as respectful but friendly. Thanks for the help! Picture of one of said employer’s cars (*cackle*) for your time (Courtesy of Will Mederski).

There is no formal application, per se ; it’s a small shop with two or three people on the payroll.

Just don’t go full Florida and rob them after your interview.

Subject: Application for Summer Employment 2016

Email body should be as brief as possible which containing the following:

1. The background (ideally why you want to work for them tied to what they do and the fact that your brother worked there assuming they liked him).

2. What you want to do and why they should hire you (e.g., relevant experience if any, or since you’re young maybe something about what you hope to do in the future).

3. Respectful thanks for their time.

4. I’d attach a resume even if it’s brief because it shows you are serious. This should be max one page.

NO TYPOS OR GRAMMAR ERRORS! I’d have one or two other people, preferably professional adults, look at the email before you send it. And the resume as well.

I’d read an email like that. Background: I am a professional in a large business that hires people all the time.

Alternative: can you stop by with your brother and talk to the boss? If you’ve already done this it goes in the background (e.g., “I’m Save, we met X TIME AGO when I was visiting with my brother...”).

Instructions unclear, getting tatoo of SS number and name on face, and robbing a bank.

I don’t have a resume but I stated that I was proficient in Photoshop and a drafting program called Vectorworks. I covered the other three though.

If you are working with race cars like in the pic I think all of us on Oppo want tons of pictures!

You definitely should go in person. Nothing says “I want this job” more than going there yourself and presenting yourself to them with confidence.

I’m super busy with school this week and I need to take care of this ASAP. The shop is out of the way too. I doubt I could get there after school before he closes up anyway.

I've shown up to several places in person with resume in hand. Great first impression and has led to several immediate interviews and job offers. These were all low level stuff and not quite what I was looking for but it worked.

Do they have a history of using the skills you have? If not maybe suggest one or two ways your skills could benefit them. If you just wanna work there because Porsches are cool, which is a valid reason, maybe suggest you would be happy to do other tasks they do have.

I’d change ‘little’ brother to younger brother, little makes you sound small and weak but younger = Eager. Maybe.
